The timer does default to 180, which was a complaint of another user, said you had to hit the minus key 35 times to get it down to 5 minutes. I found if you hit the plus key when the timer defaults to 180, the timer sets to zero in just one press, then you can increase the time if wanted a short time.3. The low temp control is good, though it has to “heat adjust” before it starts working, during which time it will get hot then suddenly drop the heat and adjust to a warming setting. This is probably deliberate, needed to adjust the temperature of the glass top so the sensor can read it right.——don’t like:1. The display is much smaller than the original, minor niggle.2. There’s no timer setting less than 5 minutes, no single minutes on the timer at all. If making pasta I can’t set 7 or 12 minutes, only 5, 10, or 15. That is a very major complaint for me, since it makes the timer useless for most of my interactive stovetop cooking. 5 minute accuracy is about right for a porch light timer, not a cooking timer. And I can’t just put the pressure cooker to heat up at full power for 2 or 3 minutes and walk away any more, knowing it will shut off before it blows up. I have to stand there now to catch the moment and set to low. It’s a loss of convenience and time not having single minute accuracy of the timer. Seconds would not bother me, I never need that kind of accuracy.3. The older machine had 10 degree settings for the low temperature range, this new one only 20 degree. Maybe not important for the general cooking I do, some people may object, however.4. The manual is very brief about how the machine works. I had to “discover” things myself instead of them teaching me. I didn’t know, for instance, that the “temp” setting is where the lower temperatures were. I though they were just numbers equal to the wattage numbers, but they are quite different. This is a good machine, worth some more minor work to make it user-friendly.
